Mesothelioma takes life of former Minn. state legislator Dennis Newinski
Dennis Newinski, former Minnesota state legislator and two time congressional candidate, has died of malignant mesothelioma after battling the asbestos-related cancer for two years. He was only 64 years old. After more than three decades working as a union machinist, others approached him and asked that he run for office. He was known for his dedication to his church and family and his ability to connect with others.
The Republican Newinski ran for congress against, and came close to defeating, Democratic Congressman Bruce Vento. Ironically, mesothelioma—a rare occupational cancer—eventually killed both men.
