Mesothelioma takes Canadian philanthropist Chester Waxman

Chester Waxman was well known for building one of the largest scrap metal businesses in Canada and also for his dedication to raising funds for a variety of community organizations. When his father arrived in Canada from Poland in 1911, he started a horse-drawn rag and scrap business. His sons Chester and Morris developed the family business with great success in scrap metal.

He died this month at the age of 82 of pleural mesothelioma, an aggressive cancer that invades the lining around the lungs. He battled the disease for 32 months.
