Central Wash. U. asbestos-ridden building reopens green

In the late 1990s, Central Washington University in Yakima, Washington closed Dean Hall because it was contaminated with asbestos and heavy metals. But now the building is reopening. Over half of the construction material is recycled concrete, metal and wood. University officials estimate that the green building practices used will save approximately 160,000 gallons of water each year and will reduce energy consumption by about 20 percent.
