Newtown, CT construction delayed pending asbestos documentation

Connecticut’s Department of Environmental Protection won’t give the go ahead for Newtown, Connecticut to begin work on its new town hall until more documentation is provided to show that the town safety disposed of asbestos and other hazardous substances from the site. In addition to asbestos, state officials are looking for proof that materials that can contain hazardous substances—like paint and fluorescent lights—were sent to facilities licensed to handle them. Once these issues are resolved and construction is completed, the town hall will be located in Bridgeport Hall on the Fairfield Hills campus.
