Former University of Puget Sound baseball coach dies of mesothelioma in Federal Way, Washington
Bob Stewart, former coach of the University of Puget Sound and Federal Way High School baseball teams, has died of mesothelioma. He was only 68 years old. In 1972, Mr. Stewart was named Washington’s coach of the year, and he led the Federal Way baseball team to five league victories that decade. In 1984, Mr. Stewart was coach to the University of Puget Sound baseball before returning to the Federal Way team in the late 1980s and 1990s.
Mesothelioma is a particularly aggressive and incurable cancer caused by asbestos exposure. It attacks the lining of the lungs, abdomen or heart, and is generally diagnosed decades after the asbestos exposure.
