Australian journalist dies of mesothelioma at 66
Australian broadcaster Peter Leonard has died of mesothelioma in Canberra, Australia—the country’s capital. He was 66 years old when he died, just nine months after being diagnosed with the deadly asbestos-related cancer. His funeral took place at the same church where he was married 44 years earlier, and the church overflowed with hundreds of mourners. In addition to his work in news journalism, Mr. Leonard served in the Treasury and various governmental committees. A journalism scholarship to be named for him will be jointly funded by the ACT Government and WIN-TV.
