Last recording released from jazz musician Keith Shadwick, dead of mesothelioma last month

Candid Records has issued a final jazz recording by Keith Shadwick, the British jazz musician turned journalist and author. Shadwick learned in 2005 that he was dying from mesothelioma, an aggressive asbestos-related cancer. He died on July 28, 2008. Before his death, Shadwick began working to release an album, the first tracks of which were originally taped in 1973 and 1974 in Australia. The new recording, called “Free Time,” is a blend of rock and jazz. Shadwick explained that his illness inspired the name and release of the old recordings: “suddenly completion is in front of you and there is no free time any more.”

One hundred per cent of the proceeds from the release will be donated to the charity Bart’s Mesothelioma Research.
