Mr. Nicholls, who was 58, lived in England with his partner, Ms. Julie Connor, and three sons. The actor was exposed to asbestos at the age of fifteen, when he left school for a job in a factory, where he worked with asbestos pipe covering. After developing mesothelioma, Nicholls worked tirelessly to raise funds for mesothelioma research and for promoting awareness about the dangers of asbestos.
