It’s been a year since the historic First United Methodist Church burned in Burlington, Iowa, and cleanup began just about a month ago. The congregation of the 174-year-old church is eager to rebuild and to see what can be salvaged. Some significant artifacts have been found, such as a safe under the bell tower. But before these items can be examined, asbestos must be removed from the area. Well over 500 tons of contaminated debris has already been removed. The cleanup project is expected to be finished soon.
