Former Globe Manufacturing facility in Fall River, Massachusetts will have new life, but only after $650,000 in asbestos abatement and at least $20 million in renovation and reconstruction

Developers have obtained approval to turn the former Globe Manufacturing facility, a latex thread and fabric factory, into a communications data center. The first step is asbestos removal, estimated to cost $650,000. In a 4-stage plan, the developers plan to invest between $20 and $25 million in the project. The project will include installation of 2 wind turbines to provide a significant portion of the center’s electricity; it has been speculated that this project will be the nation’s largest urban wind-use installation.
