ACM & Environmental Services of Indianapolis faces a possible $1,500 penalty for asbestos violations during the renovation of Muncie’s Central High School. The eight alleged violations are classified as serious and include having workers do spot abatement of asbestos-containing materials without respirators or proper containment and regulation; failing to properly train or maintain training records for employees doing asbestos abatement; and failing to provide proper monitoring or asbestos protection programs for workers. ACM is expected to agree to a reduced fine of $975. A contractor on the project has already agreed to pay a $796.25 penalty. The contractor will not reenter any asbestos-containing areas of the school until an exposure assessment has been completed. Muncie’s school superintendent says there is no reason to think any students were exposed to asbestos at the school.
