Olean, New York had three suspicious fires within 24 hours, leading the New York Office of Fire Prevention and Control to offer its assistance to the Olean Fire Department and the Cattaraugus County Fire Investigation Team in investigating the cause of the fires. Other vacant buildings are being boarded up to try to keep arsonists out. Officials are also trying to determine who to finance and handle the demolition of this and other vacant buildings at risk for fire. Asbestos in the buildings makes the demolition much more expensive.
