Chesterfield’s Residents Against Asbestos Waste (RAAW) are fighting the development of a waste transfer station where three-quarters of the waste would be asbestos containing refuse. The dump would be in a densely populated area, and residents fear that dangerous asbestos exposure would become a problem in the area. The company promoting the plan claims that asbestos waste would be handled properly and asbestos dust would not be allowed to escape the site.
