An elderly man in Upper Bucks County, Pennsylvania has been charged with operating an illegal garbage dump. In the dump, which he has operated for decades, authorities found asbestos debris and other hazardous substances. The man’s attorney hopes to arrange a reasonable penalty and cleanup schedule but avoid prison time for his 86-year-old client. Although the owner claims he didn’t know he was breaking the law, solid waste was buried and burned at the dump for years without the necessary permits. The fines could be as much as $1,000 per day.
