Two fire departments near Syracuse fight over controlled home burn and state fines department, chief and homeowner

In November of last year, the Ira Fire Department burned a home within the neighboring Plainville Fire District’s jurisdiction. The state has fined the fire department, its chief and the homeowner $3,000 each for violations during the burn, including illegally releasing asbestos. Plainville Fire District has a ban on controlled burns. Ira’s fire chief says he believed he had notified an assistant fire chief with Plainville, and his department certainly did not intend to offend their neighbors.
