Lower Manhattan’s Deutsche Bank building was seriously damaged in the 9/11 attacks. It was very slowly being torn down, but work stopped after two firefighters died during a fire in the tower last August. The asbestos decontamination and the demolition were going on together, requiring heavy plastic sheeting and other barriers that made fighting the fire difficult and dangerous. It has not been decided that asbestos removal will occur first, and demolition of the damaged tower will follow. The entire operation is expected to be completed by the end of the year by LVI Services Inc, which was brought in last month to replace Johgn Galt Corp.
