Over the winter break, 90-year-old Everts Middle School in Circleville, Ohio had repairs done that improved the air pressure in the school’s heating system. But with the increased air pressure, the system blew asbestos-containing dust all through the school building. Students weren’t allowed to return to the school the first week of January as planned because there was still asbestos contamination in the building. The school was closed for an extra week until laboratory testing showed that all asbestos had been cleared from the school. The school district plans to have the building’s ductwork cleaned over the summer. In the meantime, the school plans to add extra filters to the building’s air ducts. They will also test the air quality in the school once a month for the rest of the school year.
