Montana Senators announce that Libby clinic specializing in treating mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases will get federal money

Montana Senators Max Baucus and Jon Tester have announced that $248,580 in federal funding will go to Libby, Montana’s Center for Asbestos-Related Disease (CARD). The CARD Clinic treats Libby’s many victims of asbestos exposure from W.R. Grace’s vermiculite mining operations there. Asbestos exposure can cause mesothelioma, a rare and virulent cancer that attacks the lining of the lungs, abdomen or heart and is nearly always caused by asbestos exposure. Asbestos can also cause other types of cancer and respiratory diseases. Hundreds of Libby residents have become sick or died because of asbestos exposure.
