Australian cancer center seeks volunteers to study mesothelioma, other asbestos-related diseases

Monash University and the Peter Macallum Cancer Centre is recruiting power industry workers from Victoria’s Latrobe Valley to participate in a study to test for asbestos-related diseases such as mesothelioma. Participants will be asked to provide blood samples yearly over a three-year period. The purpose of the study is to help develop better therapies and diagnostic tools for the diagnosis and treatment of mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases. Surveys are being sent to 1,000 current and former workers in the power industry seeking their participation, and a public meeting about the study is being held next week.
