Each week, the ABC show “Extreme Makeover - Home Edition” demolishes the home of a needy and deserving family and builds a home tailor-made to meet their needs. This time, when the show builds a new house for Connie Chapin and her four children, they must first remove all asbestos before the home can be demolished and construction begun. The home contains lead paint and asbestos-containing insulation, making it dangerous for the family to live there and more complicated to tear down. And the entire project, from asbestos removal, to demolition, to construction and furnishing, must be completed in a week. Despite the asbestos-containing insulation, the show intends to recycle and reuse as many of the house materials as possible.
