Claiming to be an asbestos investigator, in the fall of 2004 Barry Christy forged certificates that claimed he had performed asbestos surveys of several companies when he had not. Because he was not qualified to do the asbestos analysis himself, he was to have the analysis performed by a laboratory and provide certificates confirming the analysis to his customers, along with the remainder of his report. But Christy did not have the laboratory perform the analysis and instead forged the certificates. His scam cost 4 different companies at least £10,000. He has been convicted of 16 counts of forgery and 7 counts of theft by deception.
