OSHA fines a Chicago area hospital $7,500 for exposing employees to asbestos
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has fined West Suburban Medical Center $7,500 because OSHA inspectors discovered that the hospital failed to follow asbestos guidelines and, as a result, exposed employees to asbestos without warnings or training. The hospital failed to post warnings where asbestos was present and failed to train employees on the dangers of asbestos and how they could protect themselves. Even low level exposure to asbestos in the workplace can put workers at increased risk of mesothelioma and other asbestos-related cancers.
