Another steam pipe explosion in a major city, this time Boston, strays asbestos-contaminated water and debris high over downstown streets. Otis Street remains closed around the site of the explosion, creating problems for commuters that need to pass through the busy intersection at Otis and Summer streets. Five people had to be decontaminated at the exposion site. Four were taken to the hospital, but none of the injuries were life threatening. People at the site may have been exposed to asbestos, and even low level exposures to asbestos can create a risk for mesothelioma, a cancer that attacks the sac that surrounds the lungs or abdomen.
