The Governor’s Mansion in Austin, Texas, built in 1856 in the Greek Revival style, will undergo renovation beginning this fall. The work, including asbestos removal, will take approximately a year and a half and will displace Governor Rick Perry and his family. Among other dangerous problems in the mansion, an asbestos compound is holding the window panes in place and must be replaced. The renovation is intended to preserve historic construction materials and structures. This National Historic Landmark is the oldest continuously-occupied executive residence west of the Mississippi River and the oldest anywhere to survive and function in its original form.
