Shoddy repair work apparently did not cause steam pipe explosion that blasted asbestos-containing mud in midtown Manhattan

The patched pipe seam that was suspected as a cause of the July 18th steam pipe explosion that injured 40 people, shattered hundreds of windows and sprayed asbestos-containing mud over the midtown Manhattan street has been found intact approximately ten feet from the rupture. This has led the utility to conclude that the repair work could not have been a cause of the blast, and the investigation continues into the cause of the explosion.
