Construction firm selected to do renovation and asbestos removal at United Nations complex
Parsippany, NJ based Skanska USA, a subsidiary of the Swedish construction company Skanska AB, has been selected to complete the first major overhaul to the Union Nations complex since it opened in 1952. The renovation, expected to cost approximately $1.88 billion, will not change recognizable features of the U.N. complex, but it will bring the buildings up to code, replacing plumbing, wiring and ventilation systems, updating security systems, installing sprinkler systems and removing asbestos from the complex’s six buildings in Manhattan. The work is expected to be completed by 2014 and will progress in stages to minimize disruption to U.N. business.
