A research study published in the latest issue of Cancer Biology and Therapy further confirms previous in vitro research on the cytotoxic effects of ONCONASE in the treatment of mesothelioma and other forms of cancer. The pre-clinical research conducted by Alfacell, the drug’s manufacturer, and Martin-Luther University in Germany, showed ONCONASE effective on tumor cell lines of mesothelioma, chronic myelogenous leukemia, and epidermoid carcinoma. A natural protein from the leopard frog, ONCONASE has been shown in research studies to target cancer cells and cause apoptosis (natural cell death) while sparing normal cells. Phase IIIb trials of ONCONASE as a treatment for malignant mesothelioma is ongoing.
Mesothelioma is a form of cancer caused by asbestos exposure.
