Alfacell announced its third-quarter financial results with optimism about its chemotherapy drug Onconase, which is in the process of completing IIIB clinical trials for the treatment of inoperable mesothelioma, a rare form of cancer caused by asbestos exposure. In addition to progress on the clinical trial for mesothelioma, the company is also moving toward Phase II clinical trials for the use of Onconase in the treatment of other cancers. Onconase has also been touted as a potential chemopreventive agent for mesothelioma, although clinical validation is still needed.
