Criminal Charges filed against Los Angeles developer for improper disposal of asbestos-containing material

The Los Angeles City Attorney has filed criminal charges against a Los Angeles developer, who allegedly illegally removed and disposed asbestos-containing materials during the demolition of an industrial complex on Vignes Street. If convicted, the president and two property managers of Meruelo Maddux Properties could face up to one year in jail and up to $100,000 in fines. Asbestos removal is strictly regulated because breathing asbestos can cause the asbestos cancer mesothelioma and other diseases.
