The newly-formed Asbestos Diseases Research Institute is slated to receive $3 million in funding to study the asbestos cancer mesothelioma. The Sydney, Australia foundation’s goal is to work to discover a focused, effective approach to understanding how asbestos causes mesothelioma. It replaces the underfunded Medical Research and Compensation Foundation and is being built with funds from the government, Sydney University, and James Hardie. A search is underway for an inaugural director of the program.
