Chuck Strahl, Canada’s agriculture minister, spoke Saturday, March 24, 2007 at a symposium on malignant mesothelioma held at the British Columbia Cancer Research Center. Strahl, who was diagnosed with malignant mesothelioma in 2005, told medical professionals attending the conference that providing hope to mesothelioma patients was one of the best ways to help them. Physicians who treat patients with malignant mesothelioma from across Canada attended the symposium, the goal of which was to start a national dialogue about clinical research for the disease and set some research directions.
