Baron & Budd Attorney Jacqueline Montejano to participate in LIVESTRONG Day

Ms. Montejano will speak to legislators about funding and legislation to benefit people living with cancer

Jacqueline Montejano, an attorney with the law firm of Baron & Budd, P.C., is one of 200 individuals selected from applicants nationwide to participate in LIVESTRONG Day on May 16, 2007, in Washington, D.C. The event, which is sponsored by the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF), is a grassroots advocacy initiative with the goal of unifying people affected by cancer and raising awareness about cancer survivorship.

As a LIVESTRONG Day advocate, Ms. Montejano will meet with congressional leaders to raise awareness about the many unaddressed issues affecting people living with cancer; encourage increased funding for cancer research to the National Institute of Health (NIH) and National Cancer Institute (NCI); and support legislation that would fund resources, treatment, and services for persons living with cancer.

Ms. Montejano’s passion for legislative initiatives benefiting cancer survivors is two-fold. As an attorney, she represents people diagnosed with mesothelioma, a form of cancer caused by exposure to asbestos . And, she is herself a cancer survivor. A passionate advocate for cancer research and an avid cyclist, she rode 70 miles in the Lance Armstrong Foundation’s “Ride for the Roses” less than one year after undergoing treatment for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. More recently, in March 2007, she was a featured speaker and an “Honored Hero” in a 100-mile “century” bike ride, which she also completed, benefiting the .
