The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) will hold its third-annual Asbestos Awareness Day conference in Philadelphia on March 31, 2007, at the Drexel University College of Medicine. The day-long event, which is co-sponsored by the Drexel University School of Public Health and the International Ban Asbestos Secretariat (IBAS), will feature twenty international experts on asbestos and its health effects. Conference topics include: preventing asbestos exposure in homes, schools, hospitals, and work places; detecting and treating asbestos-related diseases, such as mesothelioma; and psychological and social support for asbestos victims and their families.
Conference highlights include a performance by Jordan Zevon, son of singer-songwriter Warren Zevon, whose death from mesothelioma in part inspired the creation of the ADAO.
