Small Molecules May Block Cancer Growth
A new study reports the discovery of small molecules that might be able to stop cancer cells from growing without disrupting the growth of normal cells. A team of scientists at the Harvard Medical School’s Department of Biological Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology discovered a small molecule, called 4EGI-1, that inhibits the genes that have links to cancer and may halt the growth of cancer cells. The finding, which was reported in the January 26, 2007 issue of Cell, could lead to the development of future cancer treatments
